Whether you have a specific affiliate marketing strategy in mind or want to continue a positive trend in overall sales, here are the different types of marketing promotions you may want to consider.
Site-Wide Promotions
A majority of publishers will ask for site wide promotions because they are broader and easier for consumers. With a site wide promotion, there are extremely small limitations to applying the coupon code. Here are a couple examples of site wide promotions.
- 20% off all merchandise
- $10 off your next purchase
- 15% off all regular priced merchandise
This is the most popular form of promotion that will appeal to a majority of publishers and consumers. If you are just starting out, use site wide promotions as much as possible.
Category-Wide Promotions
There are a number of companies that can’t offer the broader site wide promotions from a profit margin standpoint. The next best promotion type is a category wide or brand specific promotion. Here are a couple examples:
- All sporting good products
- All men’s apparel
- All Columbia winter coats
- All Char-Broil grills
A category/brand promotion allows an advertiser to narrow the number of products available on sale. There should still be multiple products but they are focused around a category/department or brand. When selecting a brand, a well know brand is preferred over a private label just from a name recognition standpoint.
Product-Level Promotions
When a site wide or category wide promotion is not possible, having a promotion on a specific product is an option. Here are a couple examples:
- 10% Off Bluetooth Speaker
- Save $50 on Hammocks
The most important thing to keep in mind is the discount amount. The larger the discount amount, the more attractive it will be to a consumer. When offering product level promotions get creative with the ad text so a user can see the value of the discount.
Other Affiliate Marketing Promotions
There will come a time when you have to get creative with your promotions beyond site wide, category, and product level promotions. Here are a few additional ideas you can try.
- Kits or Bundles of multiple products
A kit or bundle is appealing to users because they might get everything they need for a project with one click. - Buy X Get X
If a user buys a specific product or a quantity of products then they could get a free product or a special discount. - Spend $ and Get X
By spending a certain amount it might help justify giving them a specific discount. For example, if they spend $100 then they could get free shipping. - Vanity Code
A vanity code is a unique code that can be provided to a publisher. This doesn’t mean it’s exclusive to that publisher but it’s a unique code.
